Gengenbach at Christmas Time
Gengenbach is not just charming during the summer. In the winter the Town Hall in Gengenbach turns into the world’s largest Advent calendar. The Town Hall windows become the doors on the Advent calendar, and every year behind these doors are works of art from a specific artist. Make sure you are there when the opening of a new door is celebrated daily in December. Or enjoy the Christmas Market with its tasty treats and temptations.
Gengenbach at Fasend (Carnival time)
In the fifth season of the year, the unassuming small town of Gengenbach turns into a Carnival stronghold. In Gengenbach, the Carnival season is rung in with a special custom. At the “Hemdeglunker” the Fool’s friends of Gengenbach come together and then move through the town to gather in front of the Niggel Tower, in which the “Rogue” sleeps all year long. He is woken up by the loud chiming and shouting and the rousing awakening of the Rogue marks the start for everyone of the crazy Carnival season. Go along and join in the fun. Outside Carnival season you can visit the Niggel Tower Museum to learn more about the history of the Gengenbach “Fasnet”.
